The story
Paul wrote a letter to God’s people in Rome (Romans 1:7). He told them, “all things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28). God planned for His children to become like His Son, Jesus (Romans 8:29). “If God be for us, who can be against us?” God did not hold back His own Son. He gave Him up for us all (Romans 8:31–32).
Jesus died, rose again, and now prays for us at God’s right hand (Romans 8:34). So who can separate us from Christ’s love? Trouble, hunger, danger and even death cannot do it (Romans 8:35, 38). In all these things we are “more than conquerors through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37). Nothing in all creation, not angels, not things now or things to come, can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38–39).
Read it in the Bible: Romans 8:28–39 (KJV)
28And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A 45-minute lesson plan
| 5 min | Welcome and pray. Greet each child by name and pray: Thank God that His love never lets go. |
|---|---|
| 10 min | The story. Play the story film: each verse appears on screen in the King James Version while the scene plays. Pause to ask what happens next. |
| 10 min | Talk about it. Ask the three questions below. Then ask: “Nothing can separate us from God’s love.” What does that mean for us? |
| 5 min | Memory verse. Say Romans 8:28 together, covering one word at a time until the children can say it alone. |
| 10 min | Activity. Younger children color the coloring page while you retell the story; older children do the class sheet (memory-verse fill-in, word search and questions). |
| 5 min | Pray and send home. Pray together and send the sheet home so families can talk about the first question this week. |
- Preschool: keep it short and physical. Act out the story, use a simple prop, and repeat the big idea in one sentence.
- Elementary: let children find the passage in their own Bibles. Ask “who, what, where” questions first, then “why.”
- Preteens: read the verses before and after the passage, and ask how this story fits the whole story of the Bible.
