God Calls Abram

The LORD told Abram to leave his country, his kindred and his father’s house and go to a land He would show him. God promised to make him a great nation and to bless all the families of the earth through him, a promise that came true in Jesus (Galatians 3:8, 16). Abram obeyed, travelled with Sarai and Lot into the land of Canaan, and built altars to the LORD along the way.
Big idea: When God calls, we can trust Him and go.
Memory verse:
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Abram Lets Lot Choose
Genesis 13:1–18 · story film
Abram and his nephew Lot had so many flocks, herds and tents that the land could not hold them both, and their herdmen began to quarrel. Abram said there should be no strife between them, “for we be brethren,” and he let Lot choose first; Lot chose the well-watered plain of Jordan. Then God told Abram to look northward, southward, eastward and westward, and promised all that land to him and his seed for ever.
Big idea: Peacemakers put others first and trust God to take care of them.
Memory verse:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Matthew 5:9 (KJV)Ask: Why could Abram and Lot not dwell together? Their substance was so great that the land could not bear them, and their herdmen had strife (Genesis 13:6–7).
Game: Stand Up Together (about 10 minutes)

Twelve Spies
Numbers 13:1–14:10 · story film
God told Moses to send twelve men, one from every tribe, to search the land of Canaan, and after forty days they came back with a cluster of grapes so big that two men carried it on a staff. Ten of the spies were afraid of the walled cities and the giants and said, “We were in our own sight as grasshoppers,” and all the people wept. But Caleb said, “We are well able to overcome it,” and Joshua and Caleb told the people, “The LORD is with us: fear them not.”
Big idea: When God makes a promise, we can trust Him instead of our fears.
Memory verse:
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31 (KJV)Ask: What did the spies bring back from the brook of Eshcol? A branch with one cluster of grapes, carried between two upon a staff, and pomegranates and figs (Numbers 13:23).

Rahab and the Spies
Joshua 2:1–24 · story film
Joshua sent two spies to look at Jericho, and they lodged in the house of a woman named Rahab, whose house was upon the town wall. Big idea: When we trust God and obey Him, He does what we could never do.
